Am I suitable to work Through the Coaching North West agency?

In order to be deployed by Coaching North West we have a set of criteria that coaches at each level are expected to meet. This criteria is listed below.

Currently the service is ONLY open to Level One qualified coaches and above who want to coach in and around the Greater Manchester and Merseyside area.

The opportunities available include paid and voluntary opportunities. Coaches will be asked during registration whether they want to be considered for paid or voluntary positions or both.

We have opportunities for coaches from a wide range of individual and team sports and multi sport activities including non traditional sports and fitness activities.

Minimum standards to practice as a Coaching North West Agency coach

Apprentice / Assistant coach

Suitable for someone starting out on their coaching career with limited experience and (in most cases) a national governing body level 1 qualification or equivalent in their chosen sport/s. This person would be assigned to a senior coach to gain experience and would have a number of training needs to satisfy (e.g. a level 2 award) before being able to operate as a coaching north west coach without supervision.

Minimum Standards to practice as an apprentice coach through the agency

  • Enhanced CRB check

    All coaches/volunteers working through the agency will be required to have an up to date enhanced CRB check

  • Satisfactory coaching north west interview/induction

    As part of your registration with the agency, all coaches will be required to have an advisory interview with a trained member of staff and will experience a short introduction about what the agency does and how the coach is vital to the process.

  • Sign agency agreement

    At your advisory interview you will be asked to sign an agreement in the presence of your interviewer outlining your responsibilities and the responsibilities of Coaching North West during your time working through the agency.

  • Sign up to the professional code of practice

    All staff/coaches and partners of the agency will sign up to our code of practice demonstrating our willingness to create a positive and productive environment for participants, coaches and organisations working through the agency.

  • Insurance

    All coaches will require insurance when coaching alone through Coaching North West. This can either be provided through your NGB, privately or can be purchased through Coaching North West at a reduced cost to you.

  • References

    All accepted coaches onto the agency will only be after two references from previous employers.

  • A Level 1 qualification

    It is desirable for an apprentice coach to have a level 1 or equivalent in the sport/activity they wish to assist a coach in.

Ongoing quality assurance

  • Satisfactory feedback from senior coach
  • Current clear CRB
Coach

Suitable for a National Governing Body qualified level 2 coach (or above). Deployment will be appropriate to the coach's skills and experience. E.g. if the coach has the experience, ability and meets the minimum standards to work in a school environment then they can be considered for this type of paid role.

Minimum Standards to practice as a coach through the agency

  • NGB level 2 qualification

    To practice alone through Coaching North West a coach will have to hold a current level 2 NGB qualification or equivalent, which you will be expected to prove with the original paper copy at interview.

  • Emergency first aid qualification

    All stand alone coaches practising through the agency will be required to hold a current emergency first aid certificate equivalent to the 3hour St. Johns emergency first aid course.

  • Enhanced CRB check

    All coaches/volunteers working through the agency will be required to have an up to date enhanced CRB check

  • Specialist training e.g. working with people with a disability/multi skill

    To work in particular environments (e.g. in schools or with people with a disability) appropriate specialist training is required to coach alone.

  • Periodically observed sessions
Senior / Supervisory coach

Suitable for an experienced level 2 coach or above who has undergone additional supervisory training. This coach will be able to supervise apprentice coaches.

Minimum standards

  • NGB level 2 qualification

    To practice alone through Coaching North West a coach will have to hold a current level 2 NGB qualification or equivalent, which you will be expected to prove with the original paper copy at interview.

  • Agency supervisory training

    To become a supervisory coach through the agency a coach will undergo training provided by the agency on how best to supervise and manage other coaches.
